Because Life is Good, And Short & Sweet.
(And you won’t burn in hell for wine before five.
I don’t care what the nuns told you.)
I’ve got a little friend who brings me smiles, so I’d like to share some.
Probably best of all is that every time I see her she says “Emma! I love you!” I love her, too. She’s pretty awesome.
About two years ago, a new baby was expected at her house. One day, as we were cuddling on the sofa watching a movie, this sweet little five-year-old looked up at me and said “When Mommy & Daddy go to the hospital for the baby to be born, can I spend the night with you?”
I said, “Sure! I was thinking about that. Did Mommy & Daddy tell you to ask me?” She replied:
“No, but I thought I’d better.”
Ya’ gotta love a kindergardener who makes her own babysitting arrangements.
One morning last week, she spent an hour with me before school so her parents could go to work earlier than usual. Most evenings, I fall asleep on the sofa, then stumble incoherently up to bed, so I do my house chores in the morning. That particular morning, I’d done nothing before she arrived at 7 a.m.
We walked into the living room — sofa cushions a bit askew, throws tossed haphazardly here & there. I said “Well, this room is a bit cluttered. I haven’t tidied up yet.”
She said, “Well…..” very long pause…
“I was trying not to say anything about that.”
God, I love this kid.
=)
