Dear Black Friday…

November 25, 2011.  Day After Thanksgiving.

Dear Black Friday & the World Economy: I will not be shopping today — I hope you understand. Yes, I am hopeful that the economy will improve, and I am hopeful that retailers will have a profitable holiday season. I’m well aware that real people need their jobs, and real people work in retail & manufacturing. However, the frenzy created by promotions to shop on Thanksgiving Day, Thanksgiving night, and Black Friday appalls me.

Wine Before Five is all about savoring the moment: and that moment – this weekend – is about gratitude, family, friends, and making memories together. Yes, we will celebrate Christmas, and we will wish our Jewish friends a most Happy Hanukkah, but no, we will not contribute to the madness of slighting Thanksgiving to do so.

About winebeforefive

"If I had my life to live over... But mostly, given another shot at life, I would seize every minute... look at it and really see it ... live it...and never give it back." -- Erma Bombeck “If ever there is tomorrow when we're not together.. there is something you must always remember. you are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think. but the most important thing is, even if we're apart.. i'll always be with you.” -- from Winnie the Pooh “I am beginning to learn that it is the sweet, simple things of life which are the real ones after all.” -- Laura Ingalls Wilder “Don't cry because it's over. Smile because it happened.” -- Dr. Seuss
